Learn how to make a movie: Animation Camp 2013
with award winning cinematographer and media artist John Prusak

Ever want to create a storyboard? Direct or create animations? In this class lead by award winning cinematographer John Prusak students will collaborate to produce a short animated film during an intensive one week summer workshop. Students will be receive a DVD of the animation shorts created during this class and will be the special guests at the 2013 premier of the films. John Prusak has taught video and animation to students of all ages for more than 30 years facilitating numerous workshops with a team of knowledgeable animators. All supplies are provided. If you have ever wondered how those amazing animated movies are made this is your chance to learn how!

Do you have a great idea for a film but don’t know how to get started? Have you created animated films before but want help growing your craft? Then Storyboarding Camp is for you! Learn how to take your ideas from your mind to the page in this intensive one week summer workshop. Taught by John Prusak and his team of D.A.F.T. film makers this class makes a great stand alone course or companion course to the ever popular Animation Camp. All supplies are provided. Join the team for a week long adventure and learn how to take your talent to the next level!

Clay Camp for Grades 1-12

Back by popular demand, have fun this summer in Clay Camp! Kids will discover basic, hand-building and wheel techniques in a fun and creative environment with a professional clay artist. Explore clay by creating both functional and sculptural projects which will be glazed and fired in class. Perfect for beginning and advanced young clay enthusiasts. All materials are included.

Animal Art Camp for Grades 1 – 5

Daily June 24-27 12:00pm-2:00pm
Tuition: $120 HVCA members, $130 non-members
Location: Art Room – Oak Valley Middle School – 4200 White Oak Trail, Commerce MI.
This one week camp is all about animals! Campers will explore their textures, patterns, colors and shapes of animals from a variety of habitats and use them as inspiration for drawing, painting and sculpture. Students will learn about the fundamental concepts of art while learning about one of their favorite subjects. All materials are included.

Explorations in Contemporary Art – Grades 6-12

Students will be introduced to contemporary art through presentations and exploration of new techniques and materials for self-expression. Studio experiences will include sculpting with alternative materials, experimental painting techniques, monotype printmaking and outdoor drawing. All materials are included. | |

Middle School Art Camp Grades 5-8

Students entering grades 6-8 will be immersed in a variety of studio art experiences in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and mixed media. The camp art educator will develop fun & innovative lessons that are appropriate for all students. All materials are included. | |

All aboard! Take an art voyage around the world, exploring the unique artwork created by various world cultures. Begin by creating a passport-like journal in which to record your daily adventures as you explore the work of artisans from Africa, Asia, Australia, Latin America and more! - learn about the artistic creations of a different culture, discuss their fascinating techniques and gain inspiration for your own art. Each day we will create different piece of artwork. All materials are included. | |
| | Beginning Watercolor Open Studio | | | |

Students will learn the skills to complete a beautiful painting. Learn basic techniques: wet into wet, wet into dry, dry-brush, lifting, and which brushes and paper to use, in a fun and lighthearted environment. | | Pen & Ink Open Studio | | | with award winning artist Wendy Willihnganz

Students will work with watercolor and ink to create images from photos and your imagination. The ink will define different objects in our paintings, such as tree trunks, fruit, etc while the watercolor will add life and color. Materials list click here.

| | Beginning Stained Glass Copper Foil Method | | | with renowned artist Diane Banister
At the Artist’s Studio in Highland
Students will learn copper foiled stained glass. Each person will leave with a completed panel ready to hang. A basic design will be made using 4 pieces of beveled glass and 8 pieces of colored glass. A variety of colored glass will be available to choose from. Students will learn how to cut glass, grind glass, apply copper foil to glass, solder foil, clean and polish while completing a simple project. Instructor will provide all materials. Minimum Students: 3 / Maximum Students: 4

Age Range: 14 and up

At the Artist’s Studio in Highland
Students will learn the lead came method of stained glass. Each person will leave with a completed panel ready to hang. A basic design will be made using beveled glass, clear glass and colored glass. A variety of glass will be available to choose from. Students will learn how to cut glass, grind glass, stretch and cut lead came, assemble glass and lead came panel, solder lead came, cement and clean and polish with whiting while creating a finished panel. Instructor will provide all materials. Minimum Students: 3 / Maximum Students: 4

| | Highland Station House Fiber Artists | | | Each Wednesday at 10:00am at the HVCA join the Highland Station House Fiber Artist for a drop in knitters circle. Brush up on your technique, learn new patterns or ideas, and have fun! Drop in knitters are welcome. A small $1 donation to the HVCA is suggested for each session.

| | Creative Writing Appreciation Group | | | The Creative Writing Appreciation Group meets the second Thursday of each month from 7:00pm-9:00pm at the HVCA Highland Station House. All skill levels welcome! Bring a piece to share (ten copies) or just come and enjoy. Anyone with an interest in any form of creative writing is always welcome!
