Beginning Drawing

 

BEGINNING DRAWING with Trista Dymond

Wednesdays July 7-July 28 7p-9p 
Age 12  & up
 
This beginner course will cover the basics of drawing in terms of composition, technique, and material choice as well as introducing design elements and principles through exercises and still life. We will spend class time reviewing a small lesson and applying the new knowledge into practice. The course objectives are to gain confidence and ease in drawing skills, compare and contrast different techniques, learning and sharing ideas with fellow peers and have a ton of fun!

Animation Camp 2010

 

ANIMATION WORKSHOP with John Prusak

Ages: Students 12+

July 19-23 9am-3pm

Participants will storyboard, direct, create animations, collaborate, and produce a short animated film during this intensive one-week summer workshop designed to accommodate students aged 12 and up of all abilities. Early registrants will have the opportunity to attend the Michigan Student Film Festival in April and all participants will be invited to the gala premier opening of their films.

Come join in on the fun of creating a large Mural Painting! If you've seen the Mural at Highland Middle School, then you have an idea of the work we will be doing. So, sign up to be a part of the legacy of the school. Each student who participates in the Mural Painting will be able to sign their name on the Mural. The class will begin with a brainstorming session and will be student driven. We want your creative ideas! The Director, Patricia Buckner has printed many murals in the community all of which have been very well received.
 
There will be a 2 hour meeting on Tuesday, June 15th after school in the media center for all students who sign up. A brainstorming sesion date will be selected at that time. Actual painting begins July 13th

ART CAMP 5 PASSPORT TO ART with Cecilia Gollon

All aboard! Take an art voyage around the world, exploring the unique artwork created by various world cultures. Begin by creating a passport-like journal in which to record your daily adventures as you explore the work of artisans from Africa, Asia, Australia, Latin America and more! - learn about the artistic creations of a different culture, discuss their fascinating techniques and gain inspiration for your own art. Each day we will create different piece of artwork.

ART CAMP 6 EXPLORATION OF MEDIUMS with Cecilia Gollon
July 26th - July 29th

Exploring mediums more in depth and creating works of art at an advanced level. Students will pick their projects: One Man's Trash Let's make art from old junk, can you believe it? We definitely can with a little imagination in some oh-so surprising ways. Papier-mâché' Possibilities Let your imagination come to life or at least 3- D! In this course we will be exploring the wonders of found object sculpture and papiermâché. We will be making robots, rockets and masks. Everyone will leave with a sculpture of their own creation. Printmaking: Getting Your Message Out From a local band announcing a show to vast political revolutions, printmaking has enabled artists to reach out to a broad audience. Wearing your design on a t-shirt or making reproducible posters gives this medium the unique ability to get your message out. In this class you will learn about the various processes of screen printing, including handcut stencils, and block-out resist. You will also work in relief printing using linoleum and wood cuts. Both processes will enable you to create your own set of reproducible art. With printmaking, you can change the world!

ART CAMP 7 ALL ABOUT PAINT with Cecilia Gollan
August 16th -August 19th
9:00am - 11:30am
 
Students will learn the principles of painting, while discovering techniques employed by artists of the past and present. Using images from art history and many of the artist's tools and materials, students will reproduce and reinterpret art, while being introduced to specific fundamentals and techniques, including line drawing, value, shape, pattern, texture, shading, highlighting, color, perspective and collage. This hands-on workshop is designed to give young artists an appreciation and understanding of art history in a fun and creative way.
 
Grades 1-5

ART CAMP 8 PHOTOGRAPHY & MIXED MEDIA with Cecilia Gollan
August 16th - August 19th
12:00pm - 2:30pm 
 
Young photographers will learn the basics and fundamentals of photography as they develop confidence in what and how they see with a camera. Students will have the opportunity to have fun and explore photography with a digital camera alongside other media and techniques, like painting, collage and photo transfer. Students must bring their own camera and some photos of themselves to the first class.
Grades 6-10

Watercolor Workshop

 
WATERCOLOR with Jeanne DeHaan
Saturday August 21 & Sunday August 22
9am-4pm
 
  Concentration in composition and values to create drama are the focus of this workshop. Jeanne gets to the basic understanding of the medium, brush strokes, color mixing using a limited pallet) and how to create life and light in a painting using many different techniques. She works with all levels of learners and tries very hard to increase understanding of how different techniques work in individual applications. Understanding how each level of porosity effects your results in a painting takes the mystery out of watercolor and increases your ability to produce consistent results in every painting and have a real understanding how to recreate (or avoid) the effect next time.
Lab Fee: Cost for basic supplies is $20.00 and includes many materials at cost. Student-supplied items, and/or if students prefer to bring their own art materials, please contact 248-889-8660.

STAINED GLASS REPAIR with Diane Banister


Levels: Prior experience preferred

One on one instruction

Dates and times will be coordinated with student and instructor.

 

This class will show the process of repairing broken stained glass pieces using either the foil or lead process. Bring in a broken stained glass item to be repaired. Instructor will assist with the repair based on the extent of the students ability and degree of difficulty of broken item. Class times and dates will be set on an individual basis. Material fee will be determined by the item being repaired.

 

5 hours (start to finish project)

Age: 14+ or with instructors approval
