KVC High School Art Symposium 2008 at HVCA

Huron Valley Council for the Arts is proud to co-host the final Kensington Valley High School (KVC) Art Symposium to be held on May 8 in conjunction with Huron Valley Schools. KVC is a group of regional high schools which participate in various academic and sporting events; this is the final year for the celebrated Art Symposium, as these schools will merge with others beginning school year 2008-2009.

The Art Symposium will immerse High School staff and students in “Art Off-Campus”, and the day will be packed with hands-on workshops, guest lecturers, food and beverage, beginning and ending at the HVCA.

Guest artists will include Mary Bajcz, Donna Pellagata, Ken Graning, and Cathy Catallo, whose work and websites may be found at http://www.artshopgallery.org/  Tours will include a visitation to the studio of Heiner Hertling, sculptor & painter, whose popular "Your Brush With Nature, " is currently being televised weekly on PBS; the historic Pettibone Creek Hydroelectic Station designed by architect Albert Kahn for Henry Ford; The Art Shop Gallery at HVCA; the Aubergine Gallery in Milford; and Main Street Art

Each student will be invited to bring one exemplary piece of art, which will be juried by area artists and exhibited in one of the local venues for the month of May.  Main Street Art has graciously offered to provide awards for winning entries.

Art teachers Andrea Bronson of Milford HS, Helen Fischer of Lakeland HS,  and Dorothy Kane, part-time HVCA Volunteer and full-time RAT (Retired Art Teacher) are the co-conspirators for this event, which will be co-sponsored in part by the The History Channel and the Milford Historical Society. Questions? Please contact Dorothy at 248-568-4525.
