Home School Classes

 
PAINTING

Michele Beresford-Roger, water color artist and illustrator of the children’s books, “Mr. Kiwi: Trouble With Mr. Mow-It-All” (2016) and “Michigan Conservatory Harp Method: Magic Level” (2017) will be offering watercolor painting classes beginning Monday Sept 11, 2017 from 1:30-3pm.  Classes will be offered every OTHER Monday.

In Michele’s class, they cover a children’s book from literature to inspire the painting, a water color painting method and then a step by step painting lesson.  Children are $15/lesson and adults who stay for the class may paint for free.
The classes are offered at the Huron Valley Council for the Arts on Livingston Rd in Highland, Michigan.  Pre-scheduling is preferred but drop-ins are also welcome.    

This year’s topics will include:

Sept 11: A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’ Engle, Intro to Watercolor paints and techniques

Sept. 25: Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White.  Painting animals

Oct. 9: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis.  Using watercolors as washes 

Oct. 23: James and the Giant Peach by R. Dahl. Abstract painting

Nov. 6: The Phantom Toll Booth by Norton Juster.  Painting and drawing with watercolor pencils

Nov. 20: Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O’ Brien.  Painting and perspective 

Dec. 4: Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg.  Painting for holiday or New Years cards/prints

PERFORMING ARTS

Performing Arts classes are available upon request for home school groups and field trips. Topic are acting, basics and history of theatre, basics and history of dance, and intro to music. Please call Erin in the HVCA office at 248-889-8660 or email her at erinhvca@gmail.com to set up a performing arts course. Days and times are flexible. 


GALLERY TOUR FIELD TRIPS

Gallery tour field trips are available for all preschool and home school groups. Field trip consists of a guided tour through the gallery and a hands on activity based on the work in the gallery. Please call Erin or Maggie in the HVCA office for details 248-889-8660. Information on monthly gallery exhibitions can be found on the homepage.

Highland Station House Fiber Artists

 
Each Wednesday at 10:00am at the HVCA join the Highland Station House Fiber Artist for a drop in knitters circle. Brush up on your technique, learn new patterns or ideas, and have fun!  Drop in knitters are welcome. A small  $1 donation to the HVCA  is suggested for each session.

Creative Writing Appreciation Group

 
The Creative Writing Appreciation Group meets the second Thursday of each month from 7:00pm-9:00pm at the HVCA Highland Station House. All skill levels welcome! Bring a piece to share (ten copies) or just come and enjoy. Anyone with an interest in any form of creative writing is always welcome!
