Heather Jarosz: I was born in Livonia, Michigan and currently reside and work in Royal Oak, Michigan. In 1995, I completed my bachelor’s degree in fine arts majoring in graphic design from the College for Creative Studies. With a background in graphic design, I have worked in advertising as well as a freelance artist for over 20 years. While attending CCS I took many ceramic classes as electives and fell in love with the process. I have been focused on my ceramic artwork for the past 5 years and I am selling my work at regional art fairs and private sales. I create handbuilt / hand carved ceramics along with slipcast pieces. Through ceramics I showcase my love for pattern & color.
Doug Stein: When people think about or view photography they often think about images and scenes frozen in time, maybe a historic moment, a tragic event, or a joyous occasion. They may consider the colors, the light, or the shadows, each imparting definition and identity to an image in its own unique way. For me, photography is about all of these, and yet, so much more! It is my goal as an artist and photographer to present my audience, not with images frozen in time, but with visions that whisper to the spirit, echo in the mind, and resonate within the soul.
COMING JUNE 9: NANCY WANCHIK
With artworks in collections throughout the United States, Canada and Europe, Nancy Wanchik is a professional artist specializing in mixed media collages using newspaper, tissue paper, watercolor, and ink. She has also found how wonderful Acrylic painting tells the stories she wants to convey. She is based in the Metro-Detroit area and is influenced by Detroit’s vibrant fine, street and graffiti art scenes. “I want my artwork to talk to you, for you to create a story around it. Throughout the years, I have used various art methods and mediums, and I saw how perfectly I can communicate emotions, magic, and visual poetry. I hope you will identify with my artwork and find your story within them. I always consider my biggest accomplishments to be when collectors write or tell me how much they love and connect with the piece they purchased from me. It’s humbling and rewarding.” Wanchik is always exploring new ways to express her art and finding new directions for you to find your stories within them.

If you’ve noticed artwork around downtown Highland as you drive by, you might be wondering who the artists are and why they’re being displayed.
Wonder no longer; c-ART (as in “see art”) is an innovative program that, for the third time, will bring high-quality reproductions from local artists to brighten Highland outdoor venues; the exhibit will be on display through mid-December.
The event is a partnership between Huron Valley Council for the Arts (HVCA) and the Highland Downtown Development Authority; it’s been popular with the public.
“Over the past three years, we have encouraged many residents and visitors to engage with art in the place they live, work, and play,” explained Sioux Trujillo, HVCA executive Director. “HVCA is excited to bring this curated outdoor experience to our community when going into museums and galleries is limited. Our hope is that this will allow families to see and experience artists that they may have never seen and inspire the community to find out more about them.”
Missy Dashevich, Executive Director of the Highland Downtown Development Authority (HDDA), added, “The Highland DDA is excited to be partnering with the HVCA to bring this exhibit once again to Highland. We advocate for our improvement in our area to encourage businesses, residents, and the public alike to want to be here.”
Dashevich added, ‘”We strive to create a sense of place, returning Highland Station to be the center of our community and a destination within the region. Part of our vision at the Highland DDA is to be an active place that promotes health, fitness, and an appreciation of the natural environment, as well as a center for the expression and enjoyment of the arts creating a place where people want to gather.”
