Retiring from a long career as a K-12/college art teacher a new world away from the myriad of unfinished projects used as examples in the classroom opened up. I love the challenges that experimenting, creating in the visual arts hold for me, manipulating materials into new sizes, shapes, and colors so they communicate new ideas. During the past few years, I have been challenging myself with flamework glass. Hot glass has almost magical properties giving the artist many challenges: heat, color, tools, danger, and science of chemicals that my other art materials have never thrown at me. If you can control the properties you can produce beautiful glistening projects that challenge the mind of the onlooker. Many of my flamework projects currently end up as pendants and infinity rings for uniquely dyed silk scarves that softly accent the wearer’s attire.
My alpacas also participate in my art endeavors, quietly growing lovely fleece to be woven into soft wearable art, scarves, and shawls.
